3 Unforgettable Days in Capri: A Perfect Itinerary for the Most Iconic Italian Island Escape
Along the Via Krupp with a view of the Faraglioni di Capri
Welcome to paradise. Capri isn’t just a destination—it’s a vibe. With its jaw-dropping cliffs, aquamarine waters, cliffside villas, chic boutiques, and that unmistakable Italian magic in the air, Capri is one of those places that truly lives up to the hype.
While many travelers visit Capri as a day trip from Sorrento or Naples, we’re here to let you in on a little secret: the real Capri reveals itself when the last ferry departs. Staying overnight transforms your experience from a rushed sightseeing tour into a relaxed, romantic island escape full of hidden gems, golden sunsets, and soul-filling moments. It was the quiet moments after the crowds left that left us with the best memories.
If you’re planning a getaway to this Mediterranean jewel, this 3-day itinerary is packed with our favorite experiences, hikes, views, and restaurants—including our dream stay at the luxurious JK Place Capri, one of the most unforgettable hotels we’ve ever stayed at.
3-Day Capri Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival, Scenic Hikes & Seaside Glamour
Morning: Arrive in Capri Whether you're coming from Naples, Sorrento, or Positano, ferries run frequently to Capri's Marina Grande. Arrange for your luggage to be transferred to your hotel (many offer porter service), and if you’re staying at JK Place Capri, you’re in for a treat from the moment you arrive. Nestled just above the port, this boutique villa-style hotel delivers 5-star elegance, unmatched views, and warm, impeccable service. Additionally, the JK Capri provides a free pickup at the port where a porter is waiting to pick you up, take your luggage, and drive you to the resort in a private golf cart. An outstanding welcome!
Afternoon: Explore Downtown Capri & Coastal Trails Once settled, head into the heart of Capri Town, a lively mix of luxury shops, flower-filled piazzas, and classic Italian charm. Grab a gelato, stroll through the Piazzetta, and soak up the glamorous island vibe. Expect the main squares and the shops to be pretty busy, but the entire downtown just buzzes with energy. If you want to take it all in, grab a spot at a cafe and enjoy people watching. If you are ready to get exploring, then wander around the town to find some boutiques and restaurants to return to later.
Next, lace up your walking shoes for one of the island’s most scenic trails: the Via Arco Naturale. This cliffside path (roughly a one-mile walk each way - which will take you between 20-30 minutes each way) winds past dramatic sea views, tucked-away villas, and ends at the stunning natural arch. This is a must do! (Note: to start the hike from downtown follow the road name Via le Botteghe. For lunch, grab a table at Le Grottelle, a charming restaurant near the arch with breathtaking views and delicious local cuisine—perfect for a mid-hike break with a spritz and a bite.
After grabbing a lunch or a quick snack, continue on the path near the Arco Naturale called the Sentiero del Pizzolungo (CAI 395). This scenic hikes takes about 2-3 hours, but is a scenic way to hike back to downtown Capri, walking along a well maintained path along the rugged coastline. This walk provides beautiful glimpses of the rocky landscape, turquoise blue waters, and gorgeous views of the Faraglioni di Capri, the towering rocks in the sea. You will slowly wind your way back to town and end back at the Belvedere Tragara observation deck.
If at this point you are tired of walking, feel free to take a break and with a little shopping or exploring in downtown Capri. If you are still feeling good, then continue on to hike the iconic Via Krupp, a winding stone path with switchbacks that seem to float above the sea. It’s one of our favorite walks on the island for epic viewpoints and photo ops galore. If you honestly only have time for one walk around town and want to skip the other hikes - make sure to do this one.
Evening: Shopping & Sunset at JK Place Capri Back in town, carve out some time for shopping—Capri is known for everything from designer labels to handmade sandals (yes, Ash even had a pair custom-made!).
Wrap up your day at JKitchen, the stunning on-site restaurant at JK Place Capri. With sweeping views, a refined Mediterranean menu, and romantic ambiance, it’s the ideal spot to toast to your first unforgettable day on the island.
Day 2: Anacapri Adventures, Mountain Views & Dinner with a Sunset
Morning: Hike the Via Marcella & Phoenician Steps Start your day early with a heart-pumping hike up the Via Marcella, followed by the historic Phoenician Steps (expect for the hike to take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to the top)—a vigorous climb that rewards you with breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment. This ancient staircase once connected Marina Grande to Anacapri and is steeped in history and island legend. Be sure to start this hike early, as you will definitely get a good sweat in climbing all of the stairs - but you are rewarded some absolutely spectacular views! We thought the sweat equity was completely worth it.
Midday: Villa Visits & Historic Gems At the top of the Phoenician Steps in Anacapri, take time to explore Villa San Michele, the gorgeous former home of Swedish physician Axel Munthe. The views from its lush garden terraces are absolutely jaw-dropping. Plan on taking at least an hour to wander through the villa and admire the gardens and sculptures. Just a short stroll away, you’ll also find Villa Rosa and the unique Church of San Michele, known for its incredible hand-painted tile floor depicting the Garden of Eden. If you have time, be sure to visit both of these icons in Anacapri as well.
Afternoon: Stroll through Anacapri & Ride to the Top of Monte Solaro Wander the quiet lanes and artisan shops of Anacapri, the island’s more laid-back and bohemian counterpart to Capri Town. While Capri contains the designer brands and name brand stores, in Anacapri you will find more of the boutique stores, not to mention plenty of limoncello and gelato stands! Next hop on the Monte Solaro chairlift for a peaceful, scenic ride to the island’s highest point (be prepared to wait in line if you are hitting it during peak tourist season and during mid-day). The panoramic views of the Bay of Naples and Faraglioni rocks are not to be missed. There’s even a little café at the top—perfect for a snack or espresso with a view.
Evening: Poolside Relaxation & Dinner at Da Gelsomina As the sun begins to dip, return to JK Place Capri (or your hotel in Capri) for a well-earned dip in the pool or to relax on the terrace with a cocktail in hand.
That evening, head to Da Gelsomina for dinner. Tucked away in the Anacapri countryside, this family-run gem is known for its vineyard views, sunset setting, and fresh local dishes. It’s the perfect way to end a day full of island exploration.
Day 3: Boat Day Bliss & Breathtaking Coastal Views
Morning to Afternoon: Explore Capri by Sea Capri is just as magical from the water as it is from land, and there’s no better way to soak it all in than with a boat tour around the island—a must-do experience. If you can - take one of the traditional wooden boats called the gozzo, perfect for a romantic experience. You can book a private island tour or a small group tour.
We spent our final day cruising around the island, and it was unforgettable. Highlights included:
Gliding past the Faraglioni di Capri, the towering sea stacks that are the island’s most iconic natural landmark - you don’t want to miss the most iconic natural features on the island!
Stopping by the Blue Grotto—although the water was too rough to enter, it was still incredible to see from the boat - the blue grotto is the number one thing to see in Capri, but just be aware that rough seas can cause the grotto to close due to safety reasons.
Swimming in the pristine turquoise waters of the Grotta Verde
Kicking back with a cold beer on deck while basking in the Mediterranean sun
Spotting dramatic cliffside villas and hidden coves
Passing by Punta Carena and the lesser-known Grotta della Vela Cardela, each with its own rugged beauty
There’s something about being on the water, feeling the breeze, and watching the sunlight bounce off the limestone cliffs that captures the true essence of Capri.
Evening: A Toast to Capri As our boat tour came to an end, we felt relaxed, sun-kissed, and totally in love with this island. We did one last shopping and exploration expedition through downtown Capri, savoring every last detail of this dreamy destination. Then we returned to JK Place Capri for some final poolside relaxation and to soak in the view one more time before catching our late afternoon ferry to Naples.
Before You Go: Capri Tips, Essentials & Must-Knows
Best time to visit: Late spring (May–June) and early fall (September–October) are ideal for avoiding crowds and enjoying mild weather. The most popular time to visit Capri is in July and August - just be prepared for crowds if you choose to go during the peak months.
Getting around: Capri is walkable, but expect hills! Use funiculars, taxis, or the island’s small buses. Many hotels offer porter services from the ferry. We found the buses and the taxis really easy to use and abundant.
Pack smart: Think stylish but comfortable—Capri chic meets coastal casual. Don’t forget sunscreen, a hat, swimwear, and good walking shoes for hikes.
Dining tip: Make dinner reservations in advance, especially during peak season. The island fills up fast!
Cash is king: Some smaller shops and restaurants prefer cash, so it’s a good idea to carry euros.
Stay overnight: Skip the day trip. Staying even one night lets you experience the quieter, more authentic side of the island.
