Extended Capri Itinerary: 6 Days of Hidden Gems & Off-the-Beaten-Path Adventures

After experiencing the magic of Capri in 3 days, we couldn’t help but feel that there was so much more to discover on this enchanting island. With its blend of stunning natural beauty, rich history, and laid-back charm, Capri offers a multitude of experiences, many of which we simply didn’t have time to explore. Capri is one of our favorite Italian islands and while we saw a ton in 3-days, it left us wanting to return and experience even more of what this gorgeous island has to offer.

So, if you’re lucky enough to have a few extra days on the island, here’s our extended itinerary—packed with hidden gems, off-the-beaten-path experiences, and some local favorites that we highly recommend. This itinerary is based on having three additional days in Capri, but if you only have an extra day or two you can pick and choose your favorite day itinerary. We hope you enjoy the magic of Capri!

Getting Around for Extended Adventures

Planning longer stays in Capri means thinking strategically about transportation, especially when you're venturing to less touristy areas and timing multiple activities per day. Here's what we learned about navigating the island efficiently during our extended stay.

Transportation Tips for Days 4-6

Day 4: Anacapri Adventures

  • Morning (Fortini Walk): Take the bus to Anacapri center, then walk 15 minutes to the trailhead

  • Bus from Capri Town to Anacapri: €2 each way, runs every 15-20 minutes

  • Walking to Punta Carena: 20-minute walk from Anacapri center (downhill)

  • Evening (La Fontelina): Taxi recommended as it's a 25-minute walk from Capri Town on uneven paths

  • Estimated taxi cost: €15-25 to La Fontelina from Capri Town

Day 5: Culture & Cooking

  • Gardens of Augustus: Easy 10-minute walk from Capri Town center

  • Certosa monastery: Adjacent to Gardens of Augustus

  • Cooking class locations: Usually in Anacapri - confirm pickup/drop-off with provider

  • Villa Jovis: 45-minute uphill walk from Capri Town OR taxi (€12-18)

Day 6: Leisure Day

  • Shopping in Capri Town: Everything walkable within the main shopping district

  • Faraglioni viewpoint: Multiple access points, closest is from Via Tragara (15-minute walk)

  • Il Riccio restaurant: Near Blue Grotto, taxi essential (€25-35 from Capri Town)

Extended Stay Transportation Strategy

Multi-Day Bus Passes: Unfortunately, Capri doesn't offer multi-day passes, but frequent travelers can ask drivers about informal arrangements.

Taxi Relationships: After a few days, you'll recognize the same drivers. They often offer better rates for repeat customers - don't hesitate to ask for their card. This can also help get your faster transportation during the busy times.

Walking vs. Riding: Extended stays give you the luxury of slower-paced exploration. We recommend walking one way and taking transport back when you're tired.

Timing is Everything:

  • Early morning buses (before 9 AM) are less crowded

  • Avoid 11 AM-2 PM for non-essential travel (hottest part of day) - also the most crowded with most tours from Naples and the Amalfi arriving during this time.

  • Evening transport can be limited - plan dinner transportation in advance especially if you are venturing outside the main tourist areas.

Day 4: Discovering the Hidden Corners of Anacapri

Morning: Hike the Fortini Coastal Walk

Anacapri contains some of the best hiking trails on the island with stunning coastal views, and one of the most stunning yet lesser-known trails is the Fortini Coastal Walk. This scenic hike offers incredible views of the sea and rugged cliffs. Expect this hike to take you around 2 a 2.5 hours. The trail leads you to Fortini, an ancient coastal fort that offers panoramic views of the island and the Bay of Naples. It’s a peaceful escape from the crowds, and incredible views make for a great escape from the crowds.

Afternoon: Visit the Punta Carena Lighthouse

After your hike, head to Punta Carena, one of Capri’s most beautiful and quiet spots. The Punta Carena Lighthouse stands proudly framed against the backdrop of the blue Mediterranean, and it’s a perfect place to relax and take in the views. You’ll also find a small pebble beach where you can swim in the crystal-clear waters. There are also a few small sea caves and alcoves to explore - but just be cautious if the water is rough that day.

Evening: Dinner at La Fontelina

Capri is known for its incredible dining options, and La Fontelina is an iconic choice for a sunset dinner. If you like seafood and great views this restaurant is a great option. La Fontelina is a beach club restaurant in the south side near Punta di Tragara. Most people come to enjoy the stunning views of the Faraglioni, and is also a great place to enjoy an aperitivo if you don’t really like seafood. As the sun sets over the water, it’s the perfect spot to reflect on the beauty of Capri.

Day 5: An Immersive Day in Nature & Capri’s Heritage

Morning: Explore the Gardens of Augustus

If you haven’t had the chance to visit the Gardens of Augustus during your first few days, now is the perfect time to do so. These beautiful gardens are home to lush flowers, Mediterranean plants, and spectacular views of the Faraglioni rocks. It’s a peaceful spot to take a stroll and enjoy a bit of quiet amidst the hustle and bustle of the island. The tiered terraces offer amazing views of the sea and is a great tranquil place to wander.

If you prefer to explore with a tour - consider taking a guided walking tour that will take you through many of the main stops (including the gardens!) around Capri and explain the historical significance. This is one we opt for if you are interested in learning more about the history of this beautiful island.

Midday: Visit the Certosa di San Giacomo

Next, dive into Capri’s history with a visit to the Certosa di San Giacomo, a historic monastery located near the Gardens of Augustus. This tranquil spot offers a glimpse into the island’s past, and you’ll enjoy walking through its peaceful courtyards and centuries-old structures. This is one of the oldest buildings on Capri with beautiful frescoes. Worth a visit if you want to learn more about the history of monastery and its cultural history on Capri.

Alternatively, if you want something more adventurous - opt for a Kayak tour of the grottoes and get out on the beautiful waters around Capri. This will give you a much more intimate view of the caves.

Afternoon: Take a small group or private cooking class

No visit to Capri would be complete without experiencing its local wines and its even better to pair that with an authentic cooking class! We recommend booking a private or semi-private tour to get a more intimate and hands on experience while soaking up those fun moments with the chef.

Alternatively, you can take a pizza making class with beautiful views overlooking Capri and the Gulf of Naples.

Evening: Sunset at Villa Jovis

End your day with a visit to Villa Jovis, the ruins of the Roman emperor Tiberius’s villa. Perched high on the cliffs, this historical site offers stunning views of the island and the sea. Watching the sunset from this ancient vantage point is an unforgettable experience.

Day 6: Leisure & Luxury—Relaxing Before You Go

Morning: Capri’s Boutique Shopping

You can’t visit Capri without indulging in some shopping, and there’s no better place to do it than in Capri Town. From high-end designer boutiques to charming local shops selling handmade sandals and artisanal goods, the island is a shopper’s paradise. Spend your morning wandering the streets of Capri Town, finding the perfect souvenirs, or treating yourself to something special.

If you want a local experience, consider take a guided shopping tour around Capri that will take you to see local traditional sandal making.

Afternoon: Relax at the Faraglioni Viewpoint

Take a few hours to relax and enjoy one of the most famous views in all of Italy—the Faraglioni Rocks. Whether you’re lounging at a café or taking a stroll along the coast, this viewpoint is the perfect place to savor the natural beauty of Capri one last time.

If you are looking for one last trip around the Island, consider a splurge by booking a private yacht for four hours you can even customize your itinerary to catch any of those hidden gems you missed over the last few days.

Evening: Dinner at Il Riccio

Capri is known for its luxurious and delicious dining, and Il Riccio is a must-visit. Situated right by the sea, this Michelin-starred restaurant offers stunning views of the sea and fresh seafood dishes that capture the essence of the island’s flavors. Treat yourself to a meal at Il Riccio to end your extended Capri getaway in style.

Money-Saving Tips for Extended Stays

Grocery Shopping: After 3+ days, buy snacks, water, and breakfast items at local markets. Hotel breakfast gets expensive over time.

Local Lunch Spots: Venture away from tourist areas for authentic, affordable meals. Anacapri has several family-run trattorias with reasonable prices.

Happy Hour Strategy: Many upscale bars offer aperitivo deals (6-8 PM) - substantial snacks with drinks that can replace dinner.

Transport Bundling: Some taxi drivers offer half-day rates (€80-120) if you're visiting multiple locations.

Off-Peak Dining: Lunch menus at high-end restaurants are often 30-40% cheaper than dinner for similar dishes.

Hidden Costs to Budget For

  • Tipping: €2-5 per taxi ride, 10% at restaurants for exceptional service

  • Beach club fees: €15-25 per person for lounger rental

  • Photography fees: Some locations charge for professional photography

  • Weather contingencies: Indoor activities and extra transport on rainy days

Essential Planning for Extended Stays

Extended stays in Capri require more strategic planning than typical 2-3 day visits. If you are staying longer here is what we would recommend to make your extended time in Capri amazing.

Advanced Reservations

High-Priority Bookings (Book 1-2 weeks ahead)

  • La Fontelina: Essential during summer months, limited seating with prime views

  • Il Riccio: Michelin-starred restaurant books up quickly, especially for sunset tables

  • Private cooking classes: Only 2-3 providers offer intimate experiences

  • Boat tours: Popular departure times fill up in peak season

Moderate-Priority Bookings (3-5 days ahead)

  • Villa Jovis sunset timing: Check sunset times and plan arrival 1 hour early

  • Certosa di San Giacomo: Confirm opening hours - sometimes closes unexpectedly

  • Taxi reservations: For early morning or late evening transport

Day-Of Planning

  • Weather-dependent activities: Fortini Walk, Punta Carena swimming

  • Flexible dining: Keep some meals unplanned for spontaneous discoveries - these are some of our favorite experiences, finding a place off the beaten path that offers that local and intimate experience. Even better idea - asks locals where they normally dine!

Weather Backup Plans

Rainy Day Alternatives

If hiking isn't possible:

  • Extended museum visits: Certosa di San Giacomo has covered areas

  • Shopping focus: Covered boutiques in Capri Town

  • Cooking classes: Perfect indoor activity (book when weather forecast is questionable)

  • Spa treatments: Many hotels offer day-spa services

If boat transport is disrupted:

  • Land-based restaurant alternatives: Have backup dinner options that don't require water taxi

  • Extended shopping time: Turn a quick browse into a thorough exploration

  • Cultural immersion: Visit local workshops and artisan studios

Flexible Itinerary Modifications

Hot Weather Adjustments (85°F+):

  • Start hikes at 7 AM instead of 9 AM

  • Extend lunch breaks during peak heat (12-3 PM) - perhaps a great time for an Aperol Spritz!

  • Plan indoor activities for midday hours

  • Focus on sunset experiences rather than midday sightseeing

Cool/Windy Weather:

  • Layer planning: Restaurants can be breezy even in summer

  • Indoor dining preferences: Request tables away from open terraces

  • Timing adjustments: Later starts when morning mist is common

If we had more time, we would have loved to explore these hidden gems, and we hope they inspire you to take your Capri adventure even further. From hiking in Anacapri to enjoying the island’s quietest corners, there’s so much more to see beyond the popular attractions.

And while Capri can be experienced in a few days, staying longer allows you to truly immerse yourself in the island’s beauty, charm, and slower pace. If you’re planning your own trip to Capri, we hope this expanded itinerary helps you make the most of every magical moment.
